Ahh, for the days when a copyright actually meant something to a bank. When the millions of miles of fiber optic cable that was laid but never lit comes on line, the movie business is going to go right on the heels of the music biz. At which point, I'm going to have to find a real job, dammit. A friend of mine in Malibu has fiber at his studio, and he is transferring 15 megs a second. That is the beginning of full-stream HD transferring, which means everybody needs to go out and buy 30" monitors, cause we'll be throwing our tv sets away. The networks are going to freak out. There's a street in downtown LA called Santee Alley, where you can buy just about any feature film for 5 bucks, long before it ever hits the theaters. When everybody's on fiber, the whole world will become Santee Alley, and we're going to need an agency the size of the FBI just to protect intellectual properties. I'd be surprised if we got one, myself.
