Reno fired all 93 of the US Attorney's that GHW Bush appointed.  Which is normal, as everyone has pointed out.  New administration, new set of troops in the AG's department.

GWB's administration wanted to fire many, or perhaps all, of the US Attorney's that they had already appointed.  People who had just been through evaluations and in most cases found not to be lacking.  These weren't Clinton's people.  These were people that at one point the Bush administration wanted in the job, but now for some reason, perhaps due to the cases they were pursuing, were no longer in the good graces of Rove, Meiers, et. al.

The fact that Bush is making Congress force his hand, the fact that many days worth of emails have disappeared, the fact that no one can exactly remember who's idea it was to start with all make this smell pretty fishy.

I suppose that if this had happened under the Clinton watch, with the same resistance, same loss of documents, and same circumstances (said attorney's were prosecuting adminstration allies), you would have thought it was not an issue either?

This whole thing makes me that much happier about the way that the Meiers appointment to the Supreme Court turned out.  Cronyism at it's worst.
