I posed the question a while back to the audiophiles here on dbis as to whether or not I should buy a DAC (digital to analog converter). I wondered if my new Roku M1000 media player was getting it's full potential in my whole house audio system, which is fed by an old (but worthy) analog Denon reciever. I'm here to report that I got a great deal on an Entech Number Cruncher 205.2 DAC (thank you Ebay) that I mated to the Roku and oh my! Did it ever make a difference! The house music never sounded so good. The Roku has it's own DAC, but the number cruncher seems to blow that one out of the water with a warmth and fullness that I never expected. Digital never sounded so good to me.The Roku Soundbridge is a relatively inexpensive and fabulously well concieved component that will stream either internet radio or your own iTunes or Media Player playlists, but you get what you pay for when it comes to sound quality. Mated with a good DAC however seems to make it a superstar. The combo gets 5 thumbs up from me!
