Democracy cant work unless demos (the people) are educated close to or as well as the ruling class. That means extending the ladder of social mobility, and finding and supporting intellectual talent where we can find it. Right now, people coming out of the public schools are for the most part trained to be, like you say, just fish without memories, snapping at the bait that theyre thrown. There should be a whole industry dedicated to scouting intellectual talent like we do potential NBA stars.
