MJG...I don't see the comparison really. To my ears, Law is a much more impressive player, but we all hear things differently, especially David and Mick. : >) And....your Cleveland candidate doesn't even vaguely sound like Satriani. Yeah, Law is a Satch clone allright (ridiculously clonish at times..) but he's an amazing player and has some very musically lyrical compositions. I'm not hearing as much with Zaza. I wonder if he's related to Jack Zaza who is an excellent woodwind guy whom I thought was based in Toronto. Used to do some work with Bruce Cockburn back in the 70's, and I think Lightfoot also (there's this nice recorder solo on the song Circle of Steel with him on it).
Guitar...it will never end. I can't wait to hear a band where the lead voice is a TUBA player! There probably is a group like that somewhere.
Speaking of Cleveland, I recall some great Trombone solos from David Thomas of Pere Ubu. And he could really strut his stuff while "playing" the thing. Good on ya', David.
