Icon Filming Cormac McCarthy

He's a most cinematic writer. "No Country for Old Men" seemed written with a movie option in mind, though who'd want to see it I don't know. Not me.

The one attempt at filming a McCarthy novel was Billy Bob Thornton's "All the Pretty Horses" and he fucked it up completely. I always thought that Terrence Malick would have been a perfect director for that novel with his incredible sense of small human dramas played out against immense landscapes.

"Blood Meridian" would make an interesting but certainly difficult to watch film. Don't know who I'd want to direct- I love the guy who did "City of God". Brando was bald enough but not BIG enough. Judge Holden was a bald giant. maybe Peter Garrett but... nah, he's not evil enough.

Some books are left better unfilmed.

I'm re-reading "Under the Volcano". That was also made into a film by John Huston, and even he couldn't do the book justice. It is a masterpiece of writing- not easy but incredibly rewarding.

Okay. I'm out of opinions for today.
