Paul has always been one of my favorite songwriters and guitarists. Even though his output is not prolific, when he writes one, it is often a masterpiece, Heart of the Night probably being the best known. Ever since I heard Bad Weather on an early Poco album, I was sold. Then, I went back and listened to Illinois Speed Press, and the voice was there, even then. Poco still gig from time to time, and Paul's solo material has been amazing. He released a CD called Firebird in 2000 that has this gorgeous song called, "Woman with a Broken Heart".
If you can identify with sailboat cruising in the Caribbean, turquoise waters and golden sands on an isolated beach somewhere, then the soundscape for you is definitely When the Coast is Clear, his newest release. Slip that puppy into the yacht sound system, hoist the sails and float off. Mainly originals, but he's got a cover on it of Into the Mystic that kicks ass, and a reworking of Barbados (which was on the stellar Poco Legend album back in 1978) I just ordered my copy after listening to the downloads.
Happy Sailing with Capn' Cotton,
Gene
