I told the story about my great grandfather's guitar that he left me. I'm getting a tad long in the tooth and have some very pleasant free time to myself in my off time and thought I'd learn to play his guitar. (I don't really have a clue...but I got time on my hands)
Alas, I got some great advice from this board and took David's advice in particular and thought nylon strings would be just the ticket for me (it's an acoustic). I work in an IT (office) environment and have no callouses on my fingers and thought maybe that would really help to get me started.
I took my guitar to a local and well respected guitar shop to have it re-strung and they told me that the neck is too warped to play either way reliably. I can't really see what they meant (looks fine to me), but they saw it immediatley. They said that it looked like it had too much humidity at some point. I've had it for a long time and that may have been my fault. It looks like it's going to just remain an art piece to me.
Anyway, like I said, I got some time and would like to learn the guitar...if for no other reason that my GG was a great musician (by all accounts). My last question to this board on this subject (well maybe) is what should a beginning guitar player buy to get a good start?
Keep in mind that this is only for myself and that I have absolutely no grandiose ideas about becoming a rock star.
