A Gladstone man drove 300km with a blow-up doll in his passenger seat,to make it look like he was a supervised learner driver.

Disqualified driver Ross Alexander Ahern put a L plate on his car and even dressed the doll in a shirt,shorts and a hat.

Ahern,46,had gone to Maryborough for his son's 21st birthday party in August,with a friend driving his car,Gladstone Magistrates Court heard on Friday.

When he could not get the friend to drive him home back to Gladstone, Ahern decided to use the blow-up doll to fool police he was a learner driving under supervision.Ahern made it all the way back to Gladstone in a car that kept overheating because of a blown head gasket before he came to the attention of police.

The court heard Ahern had been disqualified  from driving for 13 months,but had driven from Maryborough because he needed to get back in time for work.

He pleaded guilty to disqualified driving and falsely displaying L plates and was convicted and fined $1300 and disqualified for another two years.
