Well, it's been nearly a week since the Lindsey B. concert and I'm still in a bit of a daze. He was that good. Here's my take...
Getting transferred into a normal theatre seat was a bit awkward but having 7th row seats was well worth the difficulty.I was close enough to the stage I could read the settings on his amps, and clearly see the arsenal of beautiful Turner guitars positioned a little to my left. When the house lights dimmed and "he" stepped on stage I had to shake my head in amazement (the first of about a thousand times that night). There was Lindsey Buckingham..the man responsible for so much essential and influential music to me, singing and playing guitar 20 feet away from me. What do I do? Do I watch his face? His fingers on the guitar? Both?
After two songs, "Not Too Late" from his new album, and a reworking of "Trouble" the other musicians joined the stage. A second guitarist, another on ass't keys/bass, and a cool percussionist using a far from typical set up but it worked wonderfully for the arrangements of all the songs. When "Second Hand News" and "Never Going Back Again" were
played the audience offered the first of a dozen standing ovations.
The well balanced set list featured songs from all his Fleetwood Mac and solo projects. The "Big Love/ Go Insane" interlude had some of the most incredible guitar playing I have ever seen period. He talked a lot about the songs from his new album before playing them and was proud to introduce his wife (in attendance as the muse for most of them.
The show closed with rousing versions of "Tusk" and "Go Your Own Way" which had the house on their feet again. It wasn't til the 3rd encore song "Save Me A Place" that I thought tears were gonna roll. Why that song? I have no idea. It was so unexpected, and performed so genuinely that it got me. One last encore gave us "Bleed To Love Her".. just the man and his guitar to open the show and to close the show.
There's not enough adjectives to describe the guitar playing, singing, and stage presence from opening note to the eventual end. An absolutely incredible evening of live music. I struck out getting an autograph or picture with L.B., the only thing that could've made the evening that much better.
