No, I don't prefer Chilean to Californian wine, and most of my favs are Califorinian,  but I couldn't beat the price on that Chilean Merlot, and it turned out fine.

In the same vein, and super cheap, especially in the California groceries and wine shops.."Bear's Lair; Merlot 2001/2002"  only ...4.99 a bottle, and it's really superb!  Very well balanced.

My brother lives in Sac, and I have a close friend in Mendocino County...so I am up that way whenever I get a chance.  Great part of the world...especially the Tahoe part!

If you like beer, I'm sure you're familiar with North Coast Brewing in Fort Bragg (Mendocino cty).   Red Seal Ale etc..They have a tasting room/ restaurant that is worthwhile if you are ever up that way.
