The Decalogue by Krzysztof Kieslowski

Originally done for Polish TV in 10 installments, each titled on one of the 10 commandments, but not necessarily directly themed on that commandment.  Fairly heady stuff for TV in any country.

Kieslowski is the same guy that did the Three Colors (Blue/White/Red) trilogy back in the early/mid nineties.  Excellent stuff if you're the type that can handle subtitles.  I still spin them up on laserdisc from time to time when my mind needs a good workout.

Sadly, Kieslowski died about 10 years ago (AIDS I think) and the world lost a great director.
