Hey Peter,
Yes! that cool, sexy, bad-ass, Mr. Weller played a few Jam songs and one TSC song (see setlist below). Not sure if Boston is sold out, if not, get you butt over to the show! I 'm not sure when he is to return to the states again You know what a bitch it is for great overseas talent to break the states. It could be awhile! I can't wait for the DVD at the end of the month! I just ordered the latest Weller DVD from England, It's region free, not like The Jam one.
For those of you unfamilar with the british punk band, The Jam, check out any of the numerous greatest hits collections they have released through the years(In England, CD's go out of print at a far greater rate then in the states). The Jam mixed R&B, a little white soul, with fast paced rock, influenced by The Who and garage rock of the sixties. Sometimes the songs were very political, all the time they were performed with such raw emotion and energy that it's a shame they never broke the states like The Clash did. At the time of their demise(Paul broke up the band for artistic reasons) they were the most popular band in the U.K. In other words, they went out, on top! Not like some other British dino-sour bands from the sixties and seventies, that haven't made a decent album in twenty years. Sorry!, nasty Brit critics who can't let go of their youth or wish they had experienced it the first time! but Weller has made some damn good albums since his days in The Jam! Like any great artist, ideas need to grow, sometimes morphing into a new direction, therefore change happens. Unfortunately, sometimes at the demise of a band unit.
