In my dreamworld:
cities begin to be organized and constructed for the human, as opposed to the car. Zoning practices change enough to allow neighborhood grocery stores and the like without creating enormous parking lot dead spaces in the neighborhoods. Walking becomes not only a viable option, but a pleasant one. For jobs that do not require a person's physical presence, commuting is kept to a couple of days per week, with the rest of the person's work done online.
Oil corporations responsible for ripping out the streetcar rails from 99% of the cities they were in during the early years of the 20th century . . . decide to reinstall them.
America invents a way to become 75% fossil-fuel free, and freely shares the technology with the world. The Germans make the technology more efficient. The Japanese make it smaller. Eventually, the world learns to be 80% fossil-fuel free.
So there you have it. Tra la.
