I don't entirely agree with that, Reg. I don't think that these views speak of all Christians.
I agree with you. I don't think it speaks for all Christians. Sorry if that's how I came across.
What the Bush admin has done (and the Republican Party has done since the reign of Ronald Reagan), is to cater to a sector of American Christians who are part of the Christian Fundamentalist movement.
I think you are correct but I guess I wouldn't really use the word "cater." I think they have played things in their direction but I believe there is a motive for that and that it really has little to do with really meeting some Christian agenda. I don't think the people at Bushco really give a damn about that but they do see how to stir the pot with it. I think that they have had a 4 year and an 8 year plan from the beginning of how to meet certain goals or set certain precedents and they have stuck to it. The Christian right have just been one of the tools in the tool belt along the way.
They certainly differ in philosophy and fervency from other non-Fundamentalist Christians, and are different in some ways from Evangelicals as well. I think you are over-generalizing here.
Again I really didn't mean too. I agree with you and I did want to make a point of saying not all Christians think or feel this way. So once again sorry if that's how it came across.
I'd recommend reading Jimmy Carter's book: Our Endangered Values, for a good discussion of the differences between the Christian groups. I was pretty fuzzy in my understanding, but his simply worded book cleared a lot of that up for me.
I again agree with you though I have not read his book. I have a very close friend who is a retired reverend and I think he's read every one of Carter's books and is always highly recommending them to me. So I would guess you are dead on there. Mr. Moyers is also a Christian but I'm sure you know is not recognized as such by certain segments of the Christian populace. I will likely read some stuff from President Carter at some point and maybe I'll start with that one. I do think it is an area that needs to be covered because I think there is a sense with some people that you have to vote Republican if you are a Christian or you are betraying a deeper set of beliefs.
