Agree. Prayers her way. I've gone through a bunch of this with
close friends the past 3 years, beginning with my buddy Dan whom
I wrote about earlier.
One woman I dated developed Breast Ca but is doing fine with
minimal surgery, and finished XRT and chemo.
Eerily another lady I dated for some time succumbed to lung Ca
after a courageous battle that was only horrible at the very end.
She received some miracle drug that provided for over a year of
excellent quality of life. No...I did not "give" these people cancer,
it's OK to touch me.
Yes, Cancer is still with us. There is good news though. We
are
getting much better at curing and achieving better quality
remissions. Some of these new chemo therapies are amazing. Very
high tech. Enzyme inhibitors, immunomodulators, anti-retrovirals,
and hopefully more to come.
But...do what the doctor says. If you smoke, quit. If you
drink, do
so moderately. Exercise. Green veggies. Woman need to self-
examine the breasts monthly (at least) and get PAP smear; Men
check your 'nads (you do anyways... i know you do..), and feel the
fickle finger of the prostate inspector beginning at age 45 or earlier
if there is a family history or symptoms. And we
all need to get the ol' colonoscopy at age 50.
Beyond that...savor every moment. Or is that "Enjoy Every
Sandwich"?
