A clown as symbol of our country...a clown that is used to sell crap to children no less. We've had prouder moments as a nation I'd say. Sacking fast food joints as a way of protesting the United States, it works I guess.
I think when we brought in the ringers to topple the statue of Saddam that was at least a bit more dignified...jesus a plastic clown getting dragged through the streets is sad, comical, and just outright bizarre all at the same time. This is how the world sees us...we dump lousy food, garish clowns, and general product worship on any nation we can...it's no wonder they see us as a poison or threat to their culture. Hell, that scene could have occurred because Supersize Me just started playing at the local theatre. Funny too that the Bushco folks are out dropping by Wendy's to praise their "healthcare plan" at the same time Ronald is getting the angry mob treatment and KFC is being burned to the ground in other nations.
In all honesty these folks have the right idea just maybe for the wrong reasons. Our country could use a few less big macs and buckets of chicken. It would be nice if we attempted to use the funds we give to other nations to actually benefit the people who live in them rather than to forge corporate partnerships and line the pockets of the select few we want to buy. It seems a lot of folks feel it's just swell to use the planet as our own personal monopoly board even though we are seeing the results of that practice are rather horrific...but a certain select few are seeing record profits, so full speed ahead! The oil industry is swimming in profits and yet they are still getting federal assistance...that's right cold hard cash from the US Government to, you know, just give them a hand. In the meantime we can sell off our national parks and forests, scrap all sorts of social and educational programs because we "don't have the money to fund them", leave our borders unprotected, and spend unlimited dollars and lives under the guise of "building a democracy" in Iraq where if really given the choice Hamas would likely win an election over the paid for puppet dictator we'd prefer.
It's the stupidity that gets to me the most. The fact that what is right under our noses is completely ignored. We can make fun of people who find the cow sacred while we wallow in fast food clowns, landing a new Lexus, and whiney Christian nutjobs who feel they are "under attack" because we allow abortion and same sex couples to marry all while demonizing and bombing Muslim cultures into submission. Black is white, up is down, day is night...nothing makes any sense whatsoever...but we've got folks in this country with "values" it's just that these folks with "values" also wear blinders.
They wanna save babies and protect the children but they could care less that you gotta kill a lot of babies and children or use them as slave labor so you can fuel up your SUV drive down to the mega-mart and buy $7 sweat pants, a $30 DVD player, a bucket of chicken, a copy of the latest Fox cartoon classic, and race home where they plant their supersized ass on the couch in the $7 sweat pants they will never break a sweat in but are far more comfortable than somthing they have to button because they have devoured far too many buckets of chicken.
This is all forgiven though because on Sunday they go down to spend an hour or so in the local house of worship, drop a few bucks in the collection plate and always vote Republican. These people have "Values" with a capital 'V', ya see. Jesus talks to them...he's coming home and he's gonna be angry when he gets here...repent, repent, repent, all ye with liberal hearts and minds...
but...hang on here...
could it really be that Jesus would be such a dope...such an unenlightened sort that he would smite all those who did not tread the path of pro-life Sunday morning Christian cowboys that vote Republican, that kill in the name of greed, oil and plastic clowns? Could he really be a Jesus with kung fu grip that's gonna lay some whoop ass on the Buddha and his pals and finish off the business Dubya and his pals have been laying down on all those nasty followers of Mohammed?
well...we are made in his image right? In each of us is the spark of the divine...and we are some crazy fuckers at times so...yeah I guess so.
Thing is I won't be in line for that...won't catch me lining up for angry, vengeful deities or plastic hamburger clowns. Hey, they've been known to get nailed to crosses and get dragged through the streets by angry mobs.
Gotta do what you gotta do though I guess...somehow though it seems sacking a fast food joint would be...well...the right thing to do...or is it just me?
The cool thing is though that all these Muslim people, they don't believe in abortion either...ha...some common ground there...gives ya some hope that perhaps at some point Christians, Muslims, and Jews even, could all sack a fast food joint together...
ya gotta have hope after all...
