I just read through some of the reviews in the review section, and yes, I was kidding when I said I was 16 when I wrote Heroes... I thought it would be funny, given the first line. In reality, I think I was 22 or 23--, foolishly I'd signed up for a sort of open mic folk night at a place in downtown LA called Al's Bar. I didnt have any folk songs, having recently emerged from punk rock bands and petty (and not so petty) crime. I was working as a messenger, and a copy of David Bowies record Heroes was stuck in my VW bus' broken cassette player. Until the bus burned in a freak accident that was the only record I could listen to, not having a stereo at home. I put off writing the song until the day of the open mic, and panicking on the way to the show wrote it in the bus. I always intended to make it something other than "Heroes", but it was all I could think of at the time, and Ricketts and then soon after, Aaron, our soon-to-be A&R guy thought it was good, so I just left it. I'm picking songs for that acoustic guitar record I mentioned a while back, (the one with Dean Parks) and thinking maybe I should put that song on there.
David,
Did you ever do any tracks with Dean for the acoustical guitar record? Just wondering if you got in the middle of if and decided to punt
