I have lived and worked in Peoria, Il, Pryor's hometown for 13 yrs now. I don't know if people out of Peoria are aware of the controversy here, but the way Pryor has been treated here has been atrocious. There was a huge battle over naming a portion of street in his name. Many in this holier than thou town fought naming a few blocks of pavement after him. They felt it sent a bad message about this town's lousy image. For the longest time the city leaders completely ignored what Pryor means to the black community but finally named a few blocks of a street after Pryor. Also, Pryor grew up in this one house on High Street that is remarkable to see. It is a beautiful house that was falling in disrepair, but finally someone other than the great City of Peoria started refurbishing it. It's a wonderful landmark in an ignorant town.
