I finished "The Year of Magical Thinking" a couple of weeks ago and whew! Didion is a great writer. Really disciplined after forty or so years of practicing her craft and it shows. She just polishes and polishes and there's not a word out of place.

I read a lot of grief and loss books the years that I worked as a hospice social worker and eventually quit. The experiences were so much more than most books could capture. This one's different though. Didion is right there. She did at reading at  the new Seattle Library last month. My wife went and said there were over a thousand people who showed up. Clearly she has struck a nerve.
