I couldn’t agree with you more, EEE. Having seen Springsteen (as a bday gift from my bride) perform/no, share Devils & Dust & th’ past with an audience of about 5,000; ...having met pretty much face2face with vitality and ol’ troubadour gravel when he walked to the edge of that small stage, tromped-out a 4/4 beat on a stomp box...& Mississippi delta blues moaned a wailing wicked tenor Reason To Believe into a harp & mic.... Then two hours of one song & chopped anecdote after another ~~ heady tunes, people ~~ on baby grand piano, acoustic & electric guitars, stage piano, & a pump organ ~~ reminded me of the lil’ electric organ we had in our attic as a kid, Bruce sitting a half a foot off the stage floor like James Dean Schroeder, Sr., I’m on Fire on friggin’ Banjo for Pete’s sake that cut like a torch, ...then ending with that soaring beguiling Dream Baby Dream like a spiritual rant...pining [imo] for folks to just wake-up, shake off th’ bllshidt and get on with something inspired NOW.... He didn’t include Highway Patrolman (which I b’lieve would have fit the notion & th’ town) or All I’m Thinkin’ About into the set list, but...we’re talkin’ a fckn perfect gig here, ...so who’s quibbling. I didn’t say anything for about an hour after this concert, ...& I’m certainly NOT a stage-side groupie type who looses himself at the feet of the rock & roll circus.
This knight just took us around corners, man.
Cat’s got a worthy rap born of road-weary-grit & wisdoms [jmho]...& stuff.... It’s good to know gents like Springsteen and such are out there...not throwing in the towel....
One other thing I was rocked by was the fact that he writes this epic verse/prose into great melodies, plays them flawlessly on whatever instrument that gives ‘im a kick...AND EVOKES the words and the sensations of every damm one o’ them...for a two hour long soliloquy under a glass chandelier....
I suppose Fck the lot of ‘em
who’ve had ample time to...&...
still don’t get it. All too damm many people really didn’t get John Lennon either, ...and folks still don’t get Roger Waters. Great, ...like the guy said, “...If you ain’t pissin’ somebody off, you ain’t creating art....” ...Somethin’ like that anyway.
