my proposal? arm yourself to the fucking teeth and be ready.
no, wait.
um...okay:
for some people, grow beyond needing a Daddy figure; the president, whatever God you're into, or pop/rock star, or whoever. take as much responsibility as you can for your own lives here & now, and work to get where you need to be (as opposed to chasing where you want to be - or have been taught to think you want to be). and always appreciate what you have; it can disappear in an instant.
for others, keep seeking out any and all reasonably credible sources of information; go beyond what Daddy tells you is going on and seek many, many alternatives. the brain computer needs lots and lots of info input in order to even have a chance at calculating correctly. removing personal biases, filters and beliefs founded upon inaccurate info or negative personal experience is very hard, and even more important.
additionally, i am concerned about skyrocketing tuition rates, as education seems to be The ladder to a better (read: higher wage) life.
and as always, surround yourself with loved ones, family, real friends, good pets music and food, and get out into nature on a regular basis. it's good for ya.
i'm with Kurt Vonnegut Jr: "We are here to help each other through this thing, whatever it is."
