The program of controlling hurricanes, though, was mysteriously dropped by the federal government because of, as he termed it, "politics and professional jealousy."

I can understand that politics might play into this.  Example, the insurance industry might want something done to prevent hurricanes, but the banking industry loves problems because they get to lend money.

I'm not sure what "professional jealousy" he's talking about...
