From time to time a handful of books can have a profound impact on one's thinking. I strongly suggest this book. The Great Work by Thomas Berryhttp://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0609804995/qid=1127411968/sr=1-9/ref=sr_1_9/002-0891283-2180068?v=glance&s=booksBerry has transformed the way I perceive the environment and he does it in a common sense way. I've suggested this book in the past and do so again. Marc,There are all sorts of things that are different today than yesteryears that have influenced the death and mayhem of hurricanes of the past. For example, more transportation, things like today's better constructed homes and early warning systems have probably decreased casaulties. Global warming and its affects are similar to that of evolution - slow, not noticed at first and resulting in eventual dramatic changes. As one far wiser than I once said, it is arrogant for man to think he can kill the world, when instead we will only make it deadly for us - it will throw us off before we can kill it.
