Yes, it's very sad that such a genuinely friendly man and hands down one of the greatest (if not THE greatest) fiddlers that ever lived died today. Vassar Clements was one of my all-time favorite musicians. Thank you and rest in peace Vassar.
I was fortunate enough to see him locally several times at a bluegrass festival that he used to come to annually. I met him a couple of times too and just loved his gentle humble nature. A really warm and pleasant spirit. I have some slides somewhere around here that I took of him a few years ago with Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and Tony Rice. Talk about a legendary combo!
