Well, I've heard it said more than once that his shows are boring...with a capital B. I think the thing is he only has a small group of songs to draw from and there is not a lot of variation there. I've seen a bit of him playing live on the net and he's not a real interesting guitar player, he's just got a very cool voice.
Actually, I have sort of the same issue with Norah Jones, nice voice, some nice mellow songs, not a lot of other stuff going on...so her records after multiple listenings get a bit...ahh...boring...not that they are bad, just there's a sameness to everything. Ray suffers from this issue for sure.
There's another guy out there named Amos Lee, I mentioned a long while back that's pretty cool but he's been stuck with the terrible burdon of being called "the male Norah Jones."
How bad is that! The thing is he's got a lot of talent and has the potential to be very interesting...very soulful in a 70's kind of way.
