I guess I'm the movie guy here
I saw War of the Worlds last night. Aside from a few cheesy family moments I thought the film was pretty damn entertaining. My wife hid her face in her shirt for a good portion of the film, which seems to suggest effective scares.
It has a very 9/11 aftermath feel to it, and despite his inexplicable public behavior of late Mr. Cruise is quite good in the film, as is Tim Robbins.
If there is a theater with a BIG screen and one that you know doesn't hesitate to turn up the sound....see it there.
