It's perhaps not quite as bad as the media portrays it, but yes, it is bad.
I personally have witnessed three hijackings/attempted hijackings. The problem is that for some reason the value of life in Africa seems to be very little. At least to the criminal element anyway. If someone wants to steal your car, that's one thing. But to needlessly take your life for it, is the tragedy.
