It does seem to be fairly accurate. Gay marriage seems to be the issue that tipped this election. It's the big issue that really got people out to vote and the one that really angered people in the "Jesusland" portion of your map. It was bigger than the war in Iraq, the ecomomy, education, the environment...the majority of this country is really upset by the subject and finds it a personal attack on their beliefs, which plays a lot bigger than all the other issues in the world to them. It's also an issue that is settled state by state and has nothing to do with the president but it appears the majority of the country could care less about that. Divide and conquer baby! It's what democracy is all about now.
Here is a simple case of the majority being wrong but we live in a democracy so we must live with the decision. It's also an issue that's about inserting the government into people's private lives, which Republicans are supposed to be against, and you would think that would cause Americans to say "Hey, back off!" to politicians who play with the topic but it seems that most people don't know or care that it's not supposed to work that way. It seems they are more concerned with "getting their way" not limiting how government can control our lives.
The big question becomes -- Why do people not understand that it always benefits the people of a free society to limit the governments role in our lives as much as possible?
