Sorry folks, not going to happen this month, well I'm not going to list a top ten. To many CD's this/last month. R.E.M.'s "Around The Sun" is by no means one of their greats, but if they did a little editing it would get four stars. The First half and a couple of tracks on the latter are great. It wears a little thin towards the end and sounds all to much the same. Michael Stipe wrote some of his best lyrics on this record. As you all know, Reg and I have been pushing Ray LaMontagne. He's going to get record of the year, from me, that's for sure. Can't stop playing the damn thing. Three other singer/songwriters worth a listen: Joe Purdy, Jeffery Foucault and Alexi Murdoch. I discovered a little jem of a record from a Scottish duo called Half Cousin. Very cool. Low fi beats with very strange sounds and folk musings. A collective called The Memory Band have been rocking my world as well. If the folk-tronica tag was suited for one act, this would be it. Lovely record. Really up there as one of the best of the year. Interpol's latest is great and far more mature than the debut. Paul Weller makes a mildly pleasing covers only collection. Vinicius Cantuaria's "Horse and Fish" is another great collection of Brazilian/Jazz/Fusion sound.(Gene, I think you would love this record!). And finally Luka Bloom's "Before Sleep Comes"is a short collection a very soft acoustic ballads and originals. Great sit and chill music. That does it folks, I guess I should have made a list, but I really did leave out about ten other new releases.
On the movie front: Check out The Motorcycle Diaries. Wonderfull bio pic on Che Gueverra's trip across South America in his youth. I've ordered the books online the other day. Can't wait to read more about this man when he was young.
Cheers, Kevin (fromAZ)
