"What would you do in Iraq if you were elected in November?"
Two words: more troops. I'd also stop pussyfooting around with terrorists and criminals. As we try to fight this war and try not to (God forbid) offend anyone, these same terrorists and criminals are, for the most part, dictating the war. We're fighting it on their terms.
My best friends son (a marine) just came back Iraq last month. He said morale there is low. Not because they're fighting "an unjust war" or "a war based on lies" but because the politicians have tied their (the marines) hands together. This mess would be over quickly if the marines were able to do their job. Most Iraqi's detest this uprising. Most of the combatants are foreign fighters and those that are not are thugs and or radicals that do not speak for the general population. But in that culture power is built on fear. The Iraqi's fear all hell will break loose should the US leave now. They need us and want us to clean up this mess. We have the power to do it but we don't have the resolve. We are afraid of upsetting the Shiite's, or the Kurds, or the Sunni's, muslims, etc etc. The Iraqi's see our fear and our reluctance to crush those who kill their own. The insurgents are the ones with the resolve and the determination right now. They're the ones with the power. That's what I would change. We must take control with our power. THAT's what this culture understands and respects. Political Correctness is foreign to them. It is our weakness, not theirs.
Flame away.
