...there are so many duff books on Buddhism...I recommend Way of the Bodhisattva written by Shantideva about a thousand years ago. Words of my Perfect Teacher is a bit of a slog...a bit too technical. But if you want to read a comprehensive tome Sogyal Rinpoche 's classic is goodThe Tibetan Book of Living and Dying. The Tibetan Book of the Dead is good too...some and I say some translations of the Dhammapada are inspiring.
