***Sure, I was upset that he lied when asked about it...but in the end I didn't think (and still don't) that it was THAT big of a deal.***
To me it WAS a big deal. I believe a sitting president should represent the common good; honesty, integrity, professionalism etc. If the CEO of my company did the same thing I wouldn't care either. But I expect more from president. He, as well as others people in public office, should set the example for the rest of us. They are our chosen leaders. I expect them to know the difference between right and wrong. Clinton had (has) no idea.
***Do you think the people involved in the Enron collapse - the one's responsible, not the ones who got fucked - are not in jail because they're innocent? ***
Nah, we all know they're guilty as hell. They're just not in jail yet. But it's coming. It had better be coming. Enron's Fastow is the first. And if it doesn't happen Bush and Cheney would and should have a lot of explaining to do. The Enron/Worldcom/Global Crossing/Tyco debacles cost millions of people billions of dollars. Those responsible should not be treated the same way as Marc Rich.
***If you could pinpoint one issue why you support George I would like to hear it.***
I'll give you two just 'cause I really appreciate your work on this site!
1) Tax relief for all Americans. Yes, these cuts will primarily affect the "rich" but it's the rich who are paying the majority of the taxes in this country. They should get a break. My wife and I are a couple of "DINK's" (Dual Income No Kids). We do very well. But over half of everything we earn goes to the gov't. To make matters worse, billions and billions of dollars are wasted or, worse yet, unaccounted for every year. Yet the Dem's what to raise my taxes even higher?
My wife and I worked hard for what we have. No one gave us anything. Nor did we ever feel we were "entitled" to anything. This country is divided into the "have's" and the "have not's". I want to keep what I have and enjoy what I have. I worked hard to get what I have. I've earned it. I'm tired of a few but vocal "have nots" screaming for hand outs. If you want a new car, go to work. If you want a new house, go to work. If you want a better job to help pay for a better car or a better house, get a degree or additional training. The sky's the limit if you want it bad enough. This is America. If you WANT something, no one is preventing you from getting it. I don't want my tax dollars going to "help" people who are too lazy to help themselves.
2) Homeland security We need to be protected. There are people out there who want to see us dead. All of us. Rich or poor, black or white, young or old. They won't decriminate. I expect my government to do whatever it takes (within the laws of the constitution) to protect all of us.
3) (I got one more.) Overhaul the social security system. Too much waste and fraud. I see it every day.
***George is not a President – he’s a puppet. He’s well advised, sure – but that’s by necessity and not by design.***
Ah, but he IS a President. He may not be "presidential" but he's more presidential than Clinton for the reasons I descibed earlier. I voted for Bush because he surrounded himself with good advisers. That shows to me he knows his limitations and he listens to those who may know more than he does. I like that. Bush may not be the best president we'll ever have, and there may be someone out there right now who would be better (Powell, Kerry?) but I believed he'd be better a better president than the other two choices we had.
