Please excuse my using that old advertisement from a ...what....Buick commerical? Below is a New York Times wedding announcement that I just came across. It concerns a singer/songwriter who I fell for in a major way two years ago: Bob Hillman. His second album, "Welcome To My Century" just floored me. Incredibly clever and hilarious lyrics combined with the catchiest melodies I've heard in years. Anyway, I've been wondering when a follow-up was coming, and then I read paragraph four below: "Mr. Hillman, 33, was until August a singer and songwriter."

Given the pedigrees of all concerned, it's obvious that the newlyweds arent' going hungry but throwing in the towel at 33 with only two albums under his belt? Anyway, all this talk of new music coming out has me thinking what is NOT coming out (from Hillman that is). Anyway, if you're looking to invest your hard-earned dough in an artist who may never again release anything, check out Bob Hillman's "Welcome To My Century". Then you can join me in scratching my head and wondering why he pulled the plug on what would have been an incredible career.

Rogers III of Houston, was married yesterday to Robert Dunlap Hillman Jr., the son of Barbara Bidwell Hillman of Pacific Palisades, Calif., and Mr. Hillman of La Jolla, Calif. The Rev. Erika O. Gara, a minister of the United Methodist Church, performed the ceremony at Estrella, a hotel in Palm Springs, Calif.

The bride and bridegroom are studying for master's degrees at the University of Iowa. She is a candidate for an M.F.A. in fiction writing at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and he began working on an M.B.A. in August.

Ms. Rogers, 31, is keeping her name. She graduated cum laude from Princeton and received an M.B.A. from Stanford University. Her father is a senior partner at Fulbright & Jaworski, the Houston law firm, and is the vice president for finance and a director of the Alley Theater in Houston. Her mother, Karen Hess Rogers, is a trustee of Rice University in Houston.

Mr. Hillman, 33, was until August a singer and songwriter. He toured in 2002 and 2003 as an opening act for Suzanne Vega, and his most recent recording was "Welcome to My Century" (Brave New Records, 2002). He graduated from and received a master's degree in organizational behavior from Stanford University. His mother is an independent management consultant in Pacific Palisades and retired as an adjunct professor of organizational theory at Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif. His father retired as the chairman and chief executive of the Golden Pacific Corporation of Long Beach, Calif., a company that built and provided drilling and maintenance services to oil rigs.
