Monday July 12 will mark the 25th anniversary of the infamous Disco Demolition event here in Chicago.
Local radio legend, Steve Dahl, in the first year of his tenure here in Chicago, and Mike Veeck, son of legendary Baseball man Bill Veeck, put on a promotion between games of a double header with the Detroit Tigers. Anyone who showed up with a disco record got in for .98 cents (Steve of WLUP 97.9).
What ensued was unplanned and chaotic. It is something that in hindsight really was the final nail for the disco wave at the time.
Genius ?!?! Stupidity ?!?!?! Not for me to say but I have been a Steve Dahl fan all along .
I've included a couple of links about the evening below.
I bring it up as an antidote to the usual subject matter here. Have a great weekend everyone.
