Icon Music & Re: Insane ticket prices and the concert experience

Well, I wouldn't pay $3000 to see anybody...even if Hendrix, Lennon, and Jim Morrison came back from the dead to jam. I wouldn't pay 3 grand to see Madonna even if that included meeting her backstage and having sex with her.

I agree with Ed. The best live music you can pay for takes place in clubs or small places. I do like outdoor events as well. The big places I can live without. I saw 4 shows last year at larger venues, two Van Morrison with Solomon Burke gigs, Beck with the Black Keys, and Radiohead. This year I've seen nothing and all I plan on seeing is Brad Mehldau, at the Village Vangaurd in New York and in a hall next to my friends apartment in Tarrytown (for a whopping 10 bucks!). Plus I'll go to see the blues festival at Wachusett Mountain near my house because Bobby Bland is playing and I've always wanted to see him.

I love music and I love hearing people play live but the big shows are overpriced and not nearly as much fun as the small stuff. I have always found it strange to be standing in a hockey rink or football stadium to see live music. Seems out of place.

In Kathryn's case with the Eagles...my brother and I played those old Eagles records over and over as kids and knew all the songs by heart. I wouldn't pay to see them again...1994 was enough and I saw them a couple times plus I've seen the different guys solo many times and I've met and chatted with Henley and Walsh so, I've had my fill...but if I had never seen them I'd pay to go at least once...
