Icon Song Anthems...

While driving the other day the song "Born To Be Wild" came on the radio and it got me thinking about a few times.

One thing was what it must have been like to hear that song when it first came out and the impact it had on popular culture, if any (I was too young to notice).

Then I got to thinking about songs that become sort of anthems for a particular generation and wondered what others out there think are songs that have become sort of anthems of periods in their life and our culture as a hole.

I guess "Born to Be Wild" has become an anthem of the 60's, though an overblown and clearly worn out one.

One for me would have been Timbuk3's "The Future's So Bright"....it is a great song that shows how little many of us look beneath the veneer to find out what is really going on.

DB's "WTTB" is a great one for me personally for the period around 86.

And are we in trouble if Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy" is the anthem for the 80's and anthems come from boy bands for the 90's?!?!

Thoughts anyone?
