Well - let's see - in many ways I'm the least qualified to answer this thing about the Phish - right off -  I'm not a fan.  The only time I saw them was in a place called the 'Outback' which was another bar run by the same owner in the same building - he owned the 'Front'. Nowadays it's a business called the Ski-Rack.   I liked this bar.  I was still in college - but I liked the fact that there was this bar within a bar.  A friend of mine (he got a degree in Forestry - which means he's a greenskeeper in Florida now) talked me into seeing them.  The song was 'Chalkdust' with a refrain of 'Can I Live While I'm Young?'  The scene involved a lot of potheads and psylocibin  - even though it was before Jerry died.  The band had little trampolines.  They bounced in time.  They did 'pretend' jazz - (I know that makes me sound presumptuous, but you guys must surely know that I'm not even the channel 15 expert on crap no one cares about - butt IMHO - they suct) - the gobsmacker for me was when they did an a capella version of 'Free Bird' complete with the 'guitar' solo.  Instead of being funny - which was how the crowd interpreted it - I thought so what?  I'm certain I can find a friend who has the bootleg of that night, even though it's without my unnecessary vocal stylings (cheers).  Tix are a $150 for two days up in Coventry.  Needless to say you won't see me there - although I'm tempted to park on the outskirts and sell grilled cheese sandwiches and bottled water for $10 a pop.  Actually, that might be a fun way to hang out with Peter T., Dale, and Reg....anyway the band's popularity escapes me - I also thought the Dead were a bad folk/jazz band.  My greenskeeper buddy 'turned me onto' a live version of 'fire mountain' by the dead that was actually fairly badass - but it was the exception and not the rule in my experience. Speaking of which - here's an out of context quote I sent to a friend of mine -

Oh yeah - just to be clear - you are NOT the wind beneath my wings - nor will I ever be yours - unless you like trying to winglessly soar on  somebody's mindless farts.  Good luck with that.....

Hope that wasn't too sweet for you Mick.

Lee.
