Kevin,
I think we can come to an understanding on this liberal media thing. We may not ever come to any understanding on Bush and his crew and that's fine. I think with Bush if you feel that he was right to take us to Iraq even if they weren't a threat to us, had nothing to do with 9/11, no matter how much money it costs, and no matter how many lives are lost, American or Iraqi or folks from any other country...then hey, why not support him. You also favor him for abortion reasons and I'd guess you don't have an issue with his "No Child Left Behind" fiasco. I feel the guy has done nothing for this country except cause problems. So, we can just agree to disagree on that end. I think that's not a big thing because that's what America is all about...we can choose which path we think is best. You like the Bushco path, I don't...I'm fine with that. Hey, I'm just glad you keep discussing it with me and everyone else.
I'd like to ask you some questions about the media though. I just don't believe this "liberal media" myth and I think it's only gained ground because over the last 25 years or so we've seen the rise of folks like Rush and his fellow talk radio clowns...and people like Ann Coulter and Bernie Goldberg with books claiming "Bias", "Arrogance", and "Treason"...and this 24/7 rise of infotainment...where there's a never ending cacophony of voices claiming someone is screwing you and your beliefs at every turn. Talk radio listeners are often called the "fellowship of the miserable" because that tends to be what talk radio is all about...one long bitch and gripe session.
People like to blame someone else for their problems and that's exactly what this "liberal media" thing is...there's a non stop flow of screw-ups and fiascos being generated by this administration but rather than face the facts it's "Let's just blame the media and say they are blowing it all out of proportion!"
Here are my questions:
1. Who do you believe the "liberal media" actually is and who oversees this group to make sure all stories only benefit Democrats and damage Republicans? Who owns these "liberal media giants?"
2. Do you think the news media business is a very competitive industry? Meaning do you think they search for stories to try to out do one another and win awards and accolades...or do you think they are more concerned with helping democrats?
3. Where do you get the idea that the news media would treat reporting on a war differently if we had a Democrat in office? The last war you could really look at is Vietnam...you believe they were softer on Johnson and with their reporting on Vietnam in general?
4. Do you think a reporter, who happened to be a registered democrat, that could make a name for himself by breaking an exclusive story that was huge and would harm John Kerry would not report it because he may hurt Kerry? Even though reporting a story like that would put him front and center, probably worldwide?
5. If you were a reporter at a major newspaper and your inbox was filled with photos and documents that showed the prison abuse scandal may have involved high ranking members of the military and Bush administration...plus a few items on electric supply in Iraq improving and new schoolbooks being distributed...which story would you write and turn in to your editor in hopes of getting your story run and perhaps forwarding your career? You would, of course, know that your prison story could make the front page and your electric supply story may not even get printed unless it was a slow news day and there weren't 30 other stories about fighting and suicide bombers in Iraq your editor found more exciting...remember he wants to forward his career as well.
Just trying to get an idea where you're coming from.
