I hate to say this, but I kinda like most of the eighties sound (Have made myself and entire album with Trevor Horn produced stuff, which must be what one would call typically eighties ;-) ). Boomtown and Triage certainly dont need any updates - its two of the most intricately produced albums I know, where one can keep finding new layers.
I had two audible revolutions with the albums - First when I changed the cables from my CD player and Second when I got some good headphones (Grado).As for Bedtime, then yes some of them is a bit overproduced, but my favorites on that one (Hello Mary, Walk Through Fire and Sirens in the City) actually sound ok to me...As for your label troubles, then I understand - but then I was rather disapointed with the selections from AFM that made it to HCTNFU - and some of the productions even got worse - sigh :-/
Besides the current trend as I understand it is to publish oneselves - preferably online (Zonkmusic for instance). The only problem is publicity ;-)
