Hi everybody!Just got back from beautiful Boulder, CO, where the AAA radio people convene yearly to ponder the future of records like HCTNFU. The good news is there are people like Beth Orton in the world. What a major talent she is!
She's found a way to integrate old English folk melodies with contemporary sentiments and
sounds in a way that's both entirely timeless and entirely new. Also Coldplay did a very impressive show, leaning a little heavily on "Kid A", but gorgeous and thrilling nonetheless, and with a dazzling light show.
I think you'll be hearing a loit from them in the near future. The bad news is that the NFU are going to have a hell of a fight, to even be heard. A proper NFU tour is but a distant rumor at the moment, for reasons most familiar to all of us in this benighted field, and unless we can find a large-scale touring outfit that we can open up for, we're not going to be able to go out as a band. We can do residencies in the Texas area, Will and I can go out as an acoustic duo,
but without a major headliner, we're not going to be able to afford to tour with a band. The press is uniformly excellent, there is some radio play, but... We need a major champion out there to take us on the road. I'm at present looking for one... In the meantime, things like writing reviews for Amazon.com is a big help. People look to those, and the sales rankings, as a kind of gauge, and it is a help if you wouldnt mind writing one. Calling radio stations is a help too, and in fact anything that any of you in any of these areas could do to help would be most sincerely appreciated.
