Iraq was not a haven for radical Islamists until the invasion. Saddam successfully squashed all dissenters, including the ones you are alluding to. There is a war to be fought against these people, a war that will take decades, and require vigilance and sacrifice and the cooperation of our allies. Iraq was not the place to fight it. Afghanistan was a legitimate target, and what did we do? We took our eyes off of it (and our best trained troops out of it), to pursue Bush's obsession, Saddam. Now, Afghanistan is reverting to the warlords. It will soon be the breeding ground for another generation of terrorists. We have blown an amazing opportunity to produce real change. You just don't get it! History will not judge the Bush Administration kindly for this colossal blunder. This is what happens when we elect an ignorant leader who surrounds himself with sycophants.
