Anybody know this album? Or like it? I don't want to start a new cyber-fistfight but I'll declare this one of the great albums of the late '60's.
Post Yardbirds, Beck put together a band that featured the young Rod Stewart on vocals (when he was still great and doing interesting work), Ron Wood on bass (before his Stones career as the second Keith Richards) and the always slightly drunk-sounding Mick Waller on drums.
The band was sort of a blueprint for the later Led Zeppelin: blues-based riffs with heavy lead guitar and a singer to match. Here's where the controversy begins: Beck has always been the most consistently interesting electric guitarist to come out of the '60's English blues scene. Far more innovative than Clapton and far (far) more tasteful than Page.
And Rod Stewart- as much as I loved him then I despise him now- was amazing and Robert Plant sounds like a cat in a meat grinder compared to Stewart's work in this band.
"Truth" was the first and best of this band's efforts. The second album was a pale comparison. If you haven't heard it... Ed says "Check it out!"
