Well...south Florida hosted a town hall thingy with John Kerry this morning.  Here are some of my thoughts from the event.  Kerry is a really relaxed speaker.  I didn't get that impression about him on TV, but he is engaging in person.  He does have a weird lip licking thing that is troublesome.  The crowd was fairly diverse although no where near representative of south Florida....being a Monday morning event might have kept away the working class (and the unemployed out looking for a job and the college kids too hung over from the weekend).  He got asked the usual questions about health care and Iraq and Haiti and Cuba and one on his proposed energy policy.  His answers were thoughtful but for the most part didn't deviate from the progressive approach.  He did come real close to using the words lock box.  He got his best response when he talked about his ideas for reviving the economy and creating jobs and when he talked about improving access to more affordable health care, especially for children.  His anti Bush rhetoric was pretty toned down - which I hope continues through his campaign.  If he runs on his ideas and not on anti-Bush, he's got a great chance.  I was thinking about this as I was driving up there today.  GA and Pat and others on this site are so sure GB is a lock for reelection - but somehow I think they've forgotten just how close the last election was.  The last election was about what to do with the huge federal surplus and how important is was to restore integrity back to the WH.  I'm not saying those things didn't make sense at the time...but this time the stakes are much higher.  So I think GW will be put under a slightly higher magnification...and what the voters see at that level, I think, won't be positive.  The aw shucks approach can only last so long.  Getting back to the actual event - secret service guys (and there was one girl, I think) are creepy...they need to chill out.  And complimenting someone on how much you like their political buttons will get you nowhere.

Anyway - here's two pictures from the event that I took with my cell phone.  The third one is an AP photo where I circled myself...so there Gene...you not the only DBISer to make the AP.
