This has been one of the most civil, political discussion threads I have seen in a long time...and it's good....And I agree that the word "deserter" should not have been tossed around. I'm not aware of Mcauliffe ever using that word, only Michael Moore. What I would really like to see is the real inside workings of these campaigns. For example, I'm wondering if this exchange is in part a tactic being used to get Karl Rove to unleash some turd bombs quickly so he can be labeled very early on and someone truly nasty. Because I think later on that whichever party is best linked to dirty politics is going to receive the harshest examination by the public. Another thing I've noticed is how each side is trying to control the media and get it going in their direction early on. I told a conservative at work a year or so ago that he better hope the media has its falling out with Bush et al quickly because in every presidential cycle it happens sooner or later and you want it to be sooner as quick as possible. I think in this one, it is just turning Kerry's way. (And you can see an example of this in the documentary about the 2000 election; it's something like, "Traveling with George"....the media had more fun with the Bush Campaign and it showed - and they admitted it too - this isn't crying over spilled milk, just an observation). I think that the most important singular thing of this presidential cycle will be the very first debate between the dem and Bush. That will be the first time the rest of the country will see the dem for the first time and in politics, it really is true that the first impression (or the most portrayed impression) is the most important one.
