'round here they are saying Dean fired Trippi (it must be his fault for the scream)and then Dean asked his staffers to delay 2 weeks pay. He's not going to advertise in the upcoming 7 primaries. He's 'focusing' on Michigan. Even though he asked for two weeks - I bet he pays his staff. I hope he rallies. Did I mention I'm a Red Sox fan?The young adults (this nation's progeny and a missing factor in many elections) flocked to him. It's sort of sad, at least for me, because..well, I thought his personality and honorable status/record might be enough for him to win over the majority of voters - and although I'm no one's Shakespeare (or, for that matter, the guy who brought his ghostwriter his tea) - Dean's personality and his outsider experience seem to have been his tragic flaws politically. He's already dropped $40 million(!) and although the press hyped his astonishing use of the web to get what he raised through small donations, no one's talking about where those people are in this election now. Additionally, no one's talking about the polls and their Jimmy the Greek (or is it Pete Rose) inaccuracy - is it me or are they just statwistix??
I know plenty of people who snickered when Kerry mortgaged his property to prop up his 'sagging' campaign before Iowa. I didn't want to vote for him because of his big money/yale roots. But when you hire people to work for you, should it be based on likability (the press likes to call it electability and that sounds dangerously nuclear and expensive) or plain old ability? Fact of the matter is, I wanted Dean to win because, aside from being apart from the ol' boy network, he was someone I met and Presidents from Vermont like Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge (alright don't ask me to explain what the fark Chester Arthur was) are my sort of Presidents even though there's 80 years worth of technology/bureaucrats/history but for the return of one.I don't think Dean will take second seat to anyone ticketwise. He sounded like he was ready to call it a day after Iowa. I don't mean his holler. I wish him the best. p.s. - the first time I heard 'technocrat' was on Triage. p.p.s. - If Adam Duritz from Counting Crows was from Vermont, he would've wrote - 'Round here we stay up wicked, wicked late!'Lee
