I am curious as to why you believe that event, of all the events during mankind's existence, would be the time that God would choose to speak? And how would do you know that he didn't?
If our eyes and ears are open, we see and hear of terrible things going on all over the planet. Yet most do nothing about it, choosing instead to point to others or to question God himself.
At the very least, if you are going to blame Him for such things, at least also give him thanks for the kids you have hug and the house you have to hug them in.
