A great, reasonable post with plenty of valid points, Kevin. It is about oil, not about WMD or human rights...for some of us, the fact that this administration was so disingenuous (or utterly dishonest) about its reasons for going to war is a big deal. For some of us it isn't. And I think that's what it boils down to at this point. No amount of new information is going to change that.
Anyway, it's done now. And all this chawing about whether or not Iraq or America are any safer with Saddam out of power isn't very productive. It's going to take time to determine the answers to those questions. In some respects, it appears as though the repugnant "Bush Doctrine" is making the world a better place--I saw something last night about attacks in Iraq being down 22% since Saddam's capture (not sure what that means in real numbers), and then there's Libya, and the current thaw between India and Pakistan, improved relations between Syria and Turkey, and even rumors of Israel opening a dialogue with Damascus and Tripoli.
Will it last? Is it really even "peace" if it comes about through intimidation? What effect will this enormous deficit--and the administration's retarded education policies/ghastly environmental record/corporate toadying--have on our children? I think there's still life in those questions. But the Iraq debate has run out of gas, at least around here. At least for now. Don't you guys think?
