I don't know if many of heard of the CMJ New Music Monthly but it is a pretty good magazine. It comes along with a cd of usually around twenty songs and costs $29 a year. Usually the disc will have a couple of songs of well established acts (i.e. Wilco, Weezer, PJ Harvey and so on) and then mix up the rest of the selection. Places like Barnes and Noble carry this magazine.
