Released on July 7, 1986, Boomtown was the first—and only—full-length album by David Baerwald and David Ricketts. The story behind its release has become something of a legend: a demo cassette circulated through the offices of A&M Records and ultimately landed the duo a recording contract. Here’s a [DBIS post] about that demo tape and the intern who helped it find its way inside the label.
Boomtown was originally issued on CD, vinyl, and cassette, with worldwide distribution. As far as is known, all versions shared the same mastering. In 2003, the album was reissued by Classic Records on premium vinyl, noted for its excellent sound quality. A 45 RPM version was later tested in 2010, though it never advanced beyond the test pressing stage.
The album was certified Gold in 1995.
